This post begins an exclusive series following Loralee Chaote as she dives into homeschooling for the first time.
Last week we attended parent/teacher conferences for our 6th grader. It is his first year attending the HUGE middle school in our area.
The news about our son was not good.
In fact, it could not have been much worse.
Yesterday one of my tasks for the day (as I proceed through the 100 Day Challenge) was to review my goals and make adjustments as needed.
I determined that while my goal to post daily to this blog was good for me in as much as it was good practice in writing and good for learning to discipline myself and enforce self-imposed deadlines, it fell short as a goal because it did not include an element of intrinsic value to you, my reader.
So as of today, I am expanding the scope of that goal to include a commitment to you that each day's post will feature a link to one new blog.
These blogs may be self-hosted or, as it is today, published on central blogging platform like BlogHer.com. They will be chosen for any one of numerous reasons and I welcome bloggers to submit their blogs to me for review and possible inclusion. However, selection of the blog is totally arbitrary and not open to rebuttal.
Today's blog was picked because
1) I think Blogher is a great place for women to promote their blogs and encourage each other in their blogging activities and
2) because I personally home-schooled my daughter for a year and appreciate the dedication and commitment made by parents who make this choice.
In addition, my daughter and her husband home-schooled my grandson through his entire primary and secondary education and I am extremely proud of them and him. He was concurrently enrolled in the local junior college during his high school years and is now completing his requirements to transfer to a four year program with excellent grades.
My hat is off to all those parents who take this road less traveled!
On another note: if you follow my posts in Facebook or on Twitter you are well aware that I am caught up in a competition called ContestBurner. For those who have never heard of it, ContestBurner is a software application (Wordpress plugin) that allows the blogger to incorporate their own contest into the operation of the blog, on Facebook and all over Social Media sites. It is incredibly easy to use and an excellent tool for bringing new readers to your site or customers to your business. Read more about ContestBurner here.
