Five Months Later - a New Twist in the Road

It is difficult to believe that five months have flown by since I last posted on this blog but the dates don't lie.  My Last post was on January 14, 2011 and here it is June 21, 2011.  Since last posted I have made a major change in direction.  I am no longer exploring the world of internet marketing.  I have become active in working with a local non-profit organization called Volunteers Without Limits in San Felipe and am helping several other non-profits set up their web sites and promote their causes.

Yet, the thing that brought me back to this page was a thought that I should write daily about my new commitment to follow the 12 steps of Overeaters Anonymous.

This journey began last fall when I was invited to attend a "Women in Recovery" group at the local AA building.  I found a group of women all seeking to practice the 12 step program for a number of different reasons but none of the ladies present were there for the same cause as I ... because they were seeking freedom for a dependency on food.  Many were helpful and pointed me to good resources but the only OA person I met was only in town for a few days.

I even attempted to start an online group for a bit but I felt ill prepared to lead a group when I had not even completed the steps myself.

This week I read something that clicked on when I wrote the author, she responded and offered to act as long distance sponsor.  She shared a great deal of her own story and gave me links to additional material and for the first time, I think I am on my way.

Day 123 - Last post in the series

A third of the way there, day 123 of 365 but I have come to a fork in the road and decided to not go down this road anymore.

Thank you for taking the time to read my posts.  I'll let you know where you can find more if/when I decide to write elsewhere.

Day 115 - Traveling - San Diego

Taking family to the San Diego airport today.  On the road most of the day.  While they toured the Midway I enjoyed the view from the end of the adjacent walkway near the Fish Market.

Day 114 - Rules or Incentives - Can We Legislate Morality?

Can we legislate morality? Barry Schwartz expounds on the principle of "practical wisdom" or the skill of determining what the right thing is and doing it. Using a flexible tape measure as an illustration, Schwartz sells that a wise person knows that sometimes you need to bend the rules, and knows when it is necessary.

Day 113 - Helpless in San Felipe

Computing in the Cloud may work for some things but it doesn't help a whole lot when you store your passwords in a local file and then find yourself without YOUR computer.
With my Apple in the shop this week I am finding more and more accounts I can NOT get into without resetting my passwords, which I don't care to do.
Yes, I could have backed up my password program to a flash drive but since I am now working on a PC with Windows rather than a Mac it would have been difficult if not impossible at best.
I am just hoping that the Apple center is true their word and gets my baby back soon.

Day 112 - A Day Out in the Sun - An Afternoon Drive South

Today we took a drive down the coast, past Puerto Citos.  The new road is complete about 20 miles past PC but there are some serious rock slides to watch out for.

The weather was sunny and cool and the views were fabulous.

The community is shut tight though and the restraurant was closed so we couldn't even get in for lunch.

Day 111 - Great Get-together With Good Friends - Too Much of a Good Thing?

Image: Salvatore Vuono / FreeDigitalPhotos.net

We were invited to a patio party at a friends house and their bar service was too good for my good.  My wine glass seemed to stay full.  A very chilly day for a patio party but the propane heaters worked well and the comraderie was warm.

A very pleasant start to a new year.  Thank you Kathy, Paul, Bonnie and Wayne!

Day 110 - Out For Repairs - Not Out of Touch

Had to leave my Macbook Pro at the Apple repair center yesterday so for the next week I will be working on a borrowed computer... a PC too.  Sorry folks.  It's going to be short and sweet.

Hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable night ringing in the New Year.

Catch you tomorrow.
